Hello, friends!

If you are in need of a wonderful, prayerful meditation to create calmness in your life, here is my favorite Kirtan kriya. Kirtan kriya is a meditation that combines 3 actions: calm breathing, words / sounds, and action. In this case, the movement is a specific finger pattern that is repetitive and soothing.

Sa ta na ma meditation translates to:

Sa = Emotion / Expansiveness

Ta = Transformation / strength

Na = Universal Love

Ma = Communicativeness

The finger patterns that go with it are:

Sa - thumb to index finger

Ta - thumb to middle finger

Na - thumb to ring finger

Ma - thumb to pinky

When doing this meditation, you can say the words aloud for 2 minutes to invoke calm to your body, whisper it for 2 minutes to soothe your mind, say it silently for 3 minutes to calm your spirit, then 2 minutes in a whisper again, and finally 2 minutes aloud, for an eleven-minute meditation.

Eleven minutes might seem like a LONG time, but trust me: eleven minutes away from the news or social media will make a world of difference to your overstimulated nervous system!

The power of this meditation can also be combined with a walk, letting the Sa Ta Na Ma match your footsteps. Walking meditation is a wonderful way to slow your racing mind and get some sunshine and fresh air into your body.

Sa Ta Na Ma is soothing and repetitive, or you can use other words that soothe your soul, if you'd like. Two of my favorites are This Too Shall Pass and Thy Will Be Done.

Let me know how you feel after you finish this!
